  3. Medical care system for elderly persons in later life

This system, started in April 2008, is a medical insurance system for elderly persons aged 75 or older and for elderly persons aged 65 or older who have certain disabilities. From the age of 75 (and from the age of 65 for those who have certain disabilities), the medical insurance system switches from health insurance to the medical care system for elderly persons in later life.

Administered by “municipalities’ associations”

The medical care system for elderly persons in later life is administered by the “Associations of Medical Care Services for older Senior Citizens” where municipalities are members by prefecture. These Associations decide insurance premiums and provide medical care expenditures, and on the other hand, representatives of the municipalities collect insurance premiums.

Insurance premiums are decided by prefectures

The amount of insurance premium is established by the ordinances of each prefecture. The co-payment amount of an insured person will be decided by the “number of people per household (benefit part)” and “income (ability-to-pay part).” However, if an insured person does not meet the income standard, he/she may receive relief measures to help pay insurance premiums.

All members are insured

In the medical care system for elderly persons in later life, all members are insured and they co-pay their insurance premiums. There is no category that corresponds to the “dependent” category of the health insurance system.

Insurance benefits similar to health insurance

The insurance benefits provided are similar to those of medical insurance systems such as health insurance, but the co-payment ratio will be 10% (though if the elderly member earns as much as an active employee, the co-payment ratio of 30% will be maintained).

* ”Earners whose income is as much as that of an active employee”: as defined by the medical care system for elderly persons in later life, people who earn taxable income of more than 1.45 million yen fall into this category.

When you are approaching “age 75”

Before an insured person or a dependent reaches his/her “75th” birthday, the Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Health Insurance Association will give individual guidance about becoming a member of the medical care system for elderly persons in later life. Please use this guidance in proceeding with your membership.

After you become a member of the medical care system for elderly persons in later life, your qualification as an insured person (/dependent) in our health insurance scheme terminates

The medical care system for elderly persons in later life is a completely independent system from other medical insurance systems, therefore after you become a member of the medical care system for elderly persons in later life, your qualification as an insured person, dependent, etc., in our health insurance scheme will terminate.

When an insured person in the health insurance scheme reaches the age of 75 and the medical system he/she is added to is switched to the medical care system for elderly persons in later life, please bear in mind that any dependent’s qualification as a dependent will terminate (see the table below).
